Description

Signed Copy of "Kim Il Sung" -- Only 3 Others Known. Among the Rarest of All Modern Leaders, Rarer Even Than Mao!

"Kim Il Sung: Let Us Promote the World Revolution, Holding High the Banner of Marxism-Leninism and Proletarian Internationalism, the Banner of Anti-Imperialist, Anti-U.S. Struggle". Pyongyang: Foreign Languages Publishing House, 1969. Appears to be a 1st edition, we cannot find anything earlier. High quality dust jacket with very few flaws.

Octavo, 271pp. Signed by Kim Il-sung in blue ink on the front portrait page. Red leather bound boards with gilt lettering on the front cover and at the spine. Original yellow dust jacket with red lettering. Light corner and spine bumping to the volume. Minor uneven toning and soiling to the front and back pastedown pages. Sound binding and boldly signed. Soiling and small tears to the dust jacket. We can only find one other example at auction of his signature and this was a clipped signature selling at RR Auction for $3750 and another clip is offered by a European dealer for $4000. The same dealer has advertised a better comparable, a signed speech for 1/4 million dollars ($250,000)

According to the consignor from Hungary "The book is my father's heritage. My father died few years ago and his old childhood friend brought this from China. My father's friend was a traveller who lived and died in Australia (died last year in Melbourne). His neighborhood had many Chinese families too."

Kim Il-sung (1912-1994) was the founder and ruler of North Korea, from 1948 to 1994. He served as the country's Premier from 1948-1972, and then President from 1972-1994. Under his rule, North Korea became a communist state, with close ties to the Soviet Union. In his bid to maintain his power, Kim Il-Sul conducted numerous public executions and enforced disappearances as a consequence of dissent, both real and perceived. Dissenters and their families were also relocated to political prison camps where prisoners were forced to perform back-breaking labor. Kim also introduced a philosophy of “self-reliance,” under which North Korea worked to develop its economy with little or no help from foreign countries. On July 8, 1994, he suffered a severe heart attack and passed later that day. His son, Kim Jong-il succeeded him as the second Supreme Leader of North Korea.
