***Auction Highlight*** 1847 C Charlotte Gold Liberty Half Eagle $5 Graded ms62 details By SEGS. The 1847-C is a fairly plentiful Charlotte issue overall, boasting a survival of 300 to 400 pieces from a mintage exceeding 84,000. However, in Mint State, the date is a great rarity. PCGS records only 10 Uncirculated examples surviving, mostly of coins with heavy abrasions. The present example grades "only" MS62 Details, but surface abrasions are unusually unobtrusive for the grade, showing up prominently only under magnification and I believe the details grade is due to a tiny scratch above star oneon the Obverse that can not be seen with the naked eye. This yellow-gold 1847-C five displays a sharp strike and excellent visual appeal. It resides in the upper range of Mint State survivors, with few peers and comparably few superiors.
