Description
***Auction Highlight*** 1846-o Breen-6186 Gold Liberty Quarter Eagle $2 1/2 Graded Select Unc By USCG. This appears to be the Breen-6186, so-called overdate, that shows traces of what appears to be a 4 beneath the 6 in the date. It is given little credence as a real overdate because no Quarter Eagles were struck in New Orleans during 1844. Akers acknowledges the issue as extremely rare in Mint State. Only a handful of the 62,000 coins minted have escaped circulation, and of these, Akers claims only ten are in mint state. The example at hand is a bright and pleasing example with its smooth, creamy surfaces and bright luster. Slight weakness is noted at the center of the reverse, a characteristic of this issue. Also the reverse has some minor and unnoticeable with the naked eye, hairlines, while not distracting it is the grade-limiting factor. An underrated and undervalued issue. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
