Description
Magna Graecia, Apulia, Canosan Hellenistic Period, ca. 5th century BCE. A gorgeous mold-made pottery head of a female embodying the pinnacle of classical beauty. Crowned by a coiffure of tight coils, the ancient woman gazes forward, displaying an ovoid visage of generously lidded, almond-shaped eyes beneath a shallow brow, a noble Greek nose, and bowed, slightly parted lips. Lovely remains of red and white pigment scattered throughout. Size: 5.625" L x 3.875" W x 5.875" H (14.3 cm x 9.8 cm x 14.9 cm); 9.25" H (23.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Fragment of a larger piece. Repair and restoration to proper left back of head and shoulder. Chips to nose and chin. Expected light abrasions and scratches in areas. Otherwise, excellent. Not removable from stand.
