Description
Measurements: H 6.5cm , W 46cm , D 46cm
Rare, Stunning, Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Wucai carp pond porcelain plate. The Porcelain potted in shallow vessel form, with the broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, raised with a round shallow draft. All reserved hand-painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrasts against the wucai design color. Wucai meaning five enamels or "five color ware" shades and tones. Is in reality mostly three enamels (red, green and yellow) within outlines in blackish dry cobalt, underglaze blue, plus the white of the porcelain body, all in all making up five colors, brightly painted in WuCai design, Opaque colors around the exterior, between the filling motif decorated in colorful vivid sgrafitto ground of uptala. The name Wucai refers to Chinese porcelain items decorated in this style. This possibly suggests that the important thing is the name WuCai, or five-color ware, where the number five has an important symbolic significance in Chinese art. The Center interior delicately fine depicted with big carp swims among various water plants, banded and enclosed with double red fine color on the center and upper mouth rim. The Carp Similar sounding to the word "Business" in Chinese, the carp symbolizes a wish for benefit or advantage in business and accepted to represent longevity, wealth, abundance, and perseverance. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. The porcelain conformed all required specimens to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with the finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap, the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
