Description
Mr Brainwash (aka Thierry Guetta) is an artist of French origin. He has constructed his international reputation in Los Angeles where he has lived since the age of 15. Passionate about video and Street Art,
he organized an exhibition in Los Angeles titled XXL: Life Is Beautiful that propelled him to the forefront of the artistic scene. An “all-terrain” artist, he has created album covers for Madonna, Michael Jackson, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and David Guetta. His overlays of images from cultural and popular iconography – mainly borrowed from Pop Art ,merge with the codes and aesthetics of graffiti.
In 2010 he directed the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop with the help of Banksy . The film – denouncing the excesses of the art market – established Mr Brainwash as a key player on the Street Art scene and managed to create a certain confusion as to his real identity (which only increased his popularity). The same year his painting "Charlie Chaplin Pink " fetched over $100,000 in New York (Phillips de Pury & Company).
