Description
Oblong 8vo (206 x 140 mm), ribbon-tie binding (some soiling/wear to paper wrappers, including loss to some corners, few short tears/chips along edges). Contains 14 leaves with text printed on one side, plus 10 cyanotypes inserted (occasional spotting, few smudges to leaves; cyanotypes in very good condition).
SECOND EDITION. Helen Hunt Jackson published Ramona in 1884, hoping it would bring attention to the plight of California Indians the way Uncle Tom's Cabin did for the plight of slaves. Although the people and places in the book were supposed to be fictional, Rancho Camulos was in the exact location and setting described for Ramona's "Moreno Ranch," and quickly became a tourist destination. Capitalizing on the immediate popularity of the book, Lummis published this little "souvenir" of the house and environs.
