Catalog Note:
Anna Valentien studied with Auguste Rodin in Paris around 1899 on paid leave from Rookwood. Her interest in sculptural forms is manifested in this piece, although the several differing examples made at Rookwood did not prove financially successful. Yet they are uncommon and sought after today.
