Victorian Jewelers Regulator Floor Clock
Victorian Jewelers Regulator Floor Clock
Item Details
Description
Victorian Jewelers Regulator Floor Clock, please carefully review the many images to supplement this description, possibly Gilbert, there is a 10 stamped into iron chiming rods above and behind the movement, the owners daughter thought the movement was replaced or modified many decades ago so movement and dial and weights are present but unidentified and of unknown age and origin however looking in from the side it appears to be brass and elaborate but no idea if this is or was a pinwheel model as some jewelers regulators were, etc., see our left side, right side and from above photos of the movement behind the dial we did not attempt to remove, the weights appear old or period and the pendulum looks modern in the traditional style, the pendulum metal fittings possibly older than the wood but uncertain, as to the dial we do not know if it is any more than vintage, two accompanying keys we have not tried to use, 81.75 x 31 x 11.3 inches overall case dimensions, the visible portion of the glass in the door is 16.875 inches wide, white portion of dial 11.25 inches in diameter. Though this format incorporates a movement also seen in large wall clocks it is typically called a floor model instead of a grandfather, tall case or long case. Provenance is a Florida WWII Veterans estate whose father was an early 20th century Deltona, Florida jeweler so this may be a FL historic Floridiana antique however the family names were withheld and are not available so any ownership location information should be deemed anecdotal.
Condition
Case is in average estate discovery condition with refinishings, some repairs, some splits and some looseness, line of water staining visible on back of case, we did not attempt to set up and wind this but when the weights were put on for the photo a bracket made a back and forth rocking or ticking motion and the late owners daughter remembered it running, please carefully review the many images to supplement this description, the owners daughter thought the movement was replaced or modified many decades ago so movement and dial and weights are present but unidentified and of unknown age and origin however looking in from the side it appears to be brass and elaborate but no idea if this is or was a pinwheel model as some jewelers regulators were, etc., see our left side, right side and from above photos of the movement behind the dial we did not attempt to remove, the weights appear old or period and the pendulum looks modern in the traditional style, the pendulum metal fittings possibly older than the wood but uncertain, as to the dial we do not know if it is any more than vintage, two accompanying keys we have not tried to use, glass age unknown, sold as an as discovered, variously modified or updated estate find.
