Description
Item/Description: Original oil painting by Brazilian American artist, Harolto Victorino. Titled: "Christine & Twins" on frame. Signed lower left. Features another painting on verso signed and titled "Lovers".

Harolto Boechat Victorino was born in Brazil in 1918. He grew up on a coffee plantation where one of his earliest memories at the age of three was the royal blue paint on the ceiling of the family dining room. His passion for the color Blue would chart his artistic trajectory throughout his career. As he explains in his 2012 authorized biography by Christine Heinicke, ' Victorino, A Lifetime of Color and Brushes ': " I created art the way I breathe. " After graduating from art school in Brazil Victorino worked in Rio de Janeiro as an illustrator of children's books. He continued working in Brazil in the field of advertising as well as New York City, when he moved there in 1958. He attended the Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts and grew as an artist. He became renowned for his diversity and techniques using watercolor and oils in styles of Abstract and Expressionism.

After the untimely death of his daughter in 1983, Victorino's art incorporated additional themes of love, poetry and tragedy. His painting was a means to heal. His early paintings were often of family and friends. Later works were inspired largely by two historic events: the 1992 Earth Summit and Global Forum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and 9/11. Victorino exhibited in various venues throughout the metropolitan area including the Ward-Nasse Gallery and Artexpo, New York and the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in 2007.

Sadly much of his collection was damaged in a house fires in 2007 and 2008. There are several dozen pieces around the world that never were exposed to the smoke damage nor electrical fire. Many paintings were partially restored by the insurance company. Undettered, Victorino continued to paint until his death in 1992 at age 74.
