Henri de Regnier was a French symbolist poet, considered one of the most important of France during the early 20th century. Regnier was preparing for a career as a diplomat when he came under the influence of poetry while studying law in Paris. In 1896 Régnier married Marie de Heredia, daughter of an eminent poet, José María de Heredia. She later became a poet in her own right, publishing under the name of Gérard dHouville. Influenced by his father-in-law, Régnier abandoned his earlier free and relatively uncontrolled writing style in favour of more classical forms. For his themes, however, he continued to draw on the concerns of the Symbolists.Charles Martin (1884-1934) was a French artist. His works include book illustrations, posters, fashion designs, ballet and theater set designs, and costume designs. His illustrated books include the hat catalogue Les Modes en 1912, the erotic Mascarades et Amusettes, and Sports et Divertissements in collaboration with composer Erik Satie.
