(8 x 5 3/4 inches). 245pp. Illustrated with 15 original black-and-white lithographs by Marcel Vertes. Publisher's decorative paper wrappers. A collection of short stories illustrating life in Europe in the 1920s. Number 156 of 1165 copies. Paul Morand was a French author whose short stories and novellas were lauded for their style, wit and descriptive power. His most productive literary period was the interwar period of the 1920s and 1930s. He was much admired by the upper echelons of society and the artistic avant-garde who made him a cult favorite. Marcel Vertes (1895-1961) was a Hungarian artist who studied in Budapest and Paris. He was known primarily for his book illustrations, as well as his painted murals and tapestry designs.
