Description
Featured in this lot is this August Buermann nickel plated horse head spur pair. These spurs are attributed to August Buermann. The spurs show the traditional horse head design and are constructed from bronze. August Buermann was born in Sattenhausen, Germany on August 4, 1842. He apprenticed as a locksmith in Germany and arrived in New York in August of 1864. A few weeks later, he went into the Army as a substitute for someone who came into the locksmithing company where he was working, looking for a volunteer. August Buermann Mfg. Co. began making spurs for both the civilian and military markets. The condition of this pair of spurs is fair, with scoring to the inside of the heel band and some wear to the poorly plated nickel. The measurements of this pair of spurs are 6" x 4" x 1 1/2".
