Featured in this lot is this Zulu Nation, South African Umkhonto throwing spear. The spearhead shows leaf-like construction with a forged steel shaft tang and a long haft; the blade is covered by a leather sheath. This throwing spear is also known as an assegai, a pole weapon used for throwing that is usually a light spear or javelin made up of a wooden handle and an iron tip. Ulu is a nation of Nguni-speaking people in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa. The condition of this throwing spear is good, showing no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this spear are 61" x 2 1/4", with a blade length of 33".
