Featured in this lot is this Acoma Pueblo Sgraffito ceramic bear circa mid to late 1900's. The bear shows a fantastic example of Acoma Pueblo artistry; showing a very large size and with geometric patterns etched into the side walling of the bear in Sgraffito style of design with figures of kachina dancers centered in the artwork. The artist signature is seen on the bottom of the feet of the ceramic bear. The coloration features a border and lining of the artwork in darker brown with a white sgraffito etching. Sgraffito is a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in plaster or stucco on walls, or in slip on ceramics before firing. The condition of this ceramic bear is good with no obvious signs of damage and in like new condition. The measurements of this sgraffito Acoma ceramic bear are 13" x 17" x 5".
