Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Sican / Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1370 CE. An attractive ceremonial drinking vessel, known as a kero, formed from a thinly hammered copper sheet and shaped around a conical mold. The base is slightly convex yet still stable as the textured walls gradually expand upwards towards the flared rim with a smooth lip. Scattered traces of silvering are visible across the exterior, though most of the walls exhibit the stunning golden-brown copper color beneath with shimmering notes of iridescence. Size: 4.125" in diameter x 6" H (10.5 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, acquired from 1950 to 1960s
