SIBYL EDWARDS (Canadian b. 1944) A GROUP OF FIFTEEN PURPLE TO GREEN GRADIENT OP ART EGGS, violet, indigo, blue and green gradient expressions in parcel-gilt and watercolor paint on eggshells and wood, largest height: 3 3/4", diameter: 2 1/4". Note: A whimsical combination of mid-century op art with folk art; the present collection includes a variety of egg sizes, which is an outsider format, typical of folk art. The egg bulges the hand-painted two dimensional mathematical algorithms. The artist emphasizes color theory initiated by artists such as Josef Albers and optical illusion artworks by Bridget Riley during the 1950s and 1960s.

Some surface soil, one egg having a concentric repair at center, and another with a pea-size hole, some minor wear, overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age.
