Description
A GEORGE III MAHOGANY ARCHITECT'S TABLE, CIRCA 1780, this metamorphic table/desk has a rectangular hinged top with movable reading bar reversing to an easel form height adjuster, over another hinged and ratchet adjustable top for opposite side use, above a front centering a brass bale handle on a shaped brass lockplate with key and pulling open to a gilt-tooled green leather writing surface, sliding open to reveal various shaped compartments and flanked by hidden paddle form candlestick stands, raised on square form legs concealing brass and ebony wheeled casters, height: 32 3/4" width: 42 1/2" depth: 27" (fully extended depth: 43 1/2"). Provenance: Parker Gallery, Houston, Texas. From a Well-Traveled Private Collector, Houston, Texas.
Condition
Good condition for an architect/draughtsman table of this age, use, and materials including but not limited to liquid residue marks, fading, discolorations, old repairs, restorations, areas of light surface wear, buildup, dings, light marks, small scratches, and age shrinkage cracks.
