Description
A LOUIS XVI STYLE ALABASTER TOPPED AND PAINTED CARVED WOOD CENTER TABLE, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, the rectangular inset white alabaster top within a conforming leaf tip cast encadrement, above a recessed panel frieze centering a conforming breakfront tablet enclosing a bow ribbon tied bellflower swag in relief, flanked by fluted blocks over longleaf detailed capitals on tapering circular fluted legs ending before ovoid feet and joined by a stylized "H" form stretcher centering a ribbon bound bow, painted throughout in white with gold paint details. Height: 28 1/4" Width: 36 1/4" Depth: 26 1/4" Provenance: Private Collection, Pearland, Texas.
Condition
Alabaster top is cracked in several places, has surface buildup, unpolished, and is possibly a replacement. The remaining table has a sturdy frame, worn bronze, surface buildup throughout, paint is worn to wood in areas, flaking, scratches, scuff marks, gilt areas have been overpainted with goldish paint, normal chips, dings, and age shrinkage cracks.
