(Nouveau Content),?Victor Levasseur (1795-1862), cartographer, Pelissier, editor, Laguillermie, engraver, Lemercier, printer, Raimond Bonheur, illustrator; showing a dotted border and the Red River at the north boundary defining the Republic of Texas, at left a colonial figure negotiating with indigenous and enslaved populations before an ancient temple, railroad, and waterfall in landscape; at right evergreens emerge from glaciers revealing explorers, onlooking vultures, fauna, a polar?and grizzly bear, stag, buffalo, fox, porcupine, alligator, and spotted cat; a text box explains the beauty, abundance, and lush scene, and at center a female personification of trade holding a caduceus and a dog, she leans on a cotton bale and at her back sheaves of wheat, pineapples, apples, and other fruits, accompanied by a population chart. 13 3/4" x 19 1/2" Provenance: Private Document Collection, Rochester, New York.
