Description
American black walnut and hickory. Chairs feature a double spindle design for added strength and durability. Chairs also have a spindle back with a robust top horizontal rail. Original pencil marks from the craftsman can still be see on the reverse side of the seat.
Dimensions are: 35 3/4 inches tall X 18 1/2 inches wide X 19 inches deep; 90.8 cm tall X 46.99 cm wide X 48.26 cm deep. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: Some use wear, no noted damage.
Provenance: Purchased new by the consignors grandfather Robert Shaffer. Shaffer was in Havana until 1958 and left with his family due to the revolution. Returning home they needed new furniture and along with his brother-in-law, Frank Zachary, the noted art director and magazine editor, they went to George Nakashima for new furniture. These chairs are all that remain from the family.
