A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE CARVING OF A CRANE
17th century
The recumbent bird with legs neatly tucked underneath, its long curving neck turned sharply towards the back, holding a sprig of peaches in its long beak falling over the finely incised wings, the tail feathers finely detailed, the stone of greenish-white tone with minor russet inclusions.
8cm (3 1/8in) long.

Condition
Potentially free of restoration or repair and in apparent good general order.
Due to the mottled nature of the stone occasional very minor blemishes and chips where naturally occurring inclusions and striations make their appearance on surface.
One suspected inclusion has required the polishing of a cavity upon the bird's neck to one side which remains rough and granular within and 'may' be contemporary with the carving but 'may' not be. Another pronounced linear fissure has been deftly utilised within the carving disguised by the elements of the bird's wing and leg below.
