Description
(2) Paper Dolls with a variety of costumes and accessories. watercolor and pen and ink. each framed separately. 14 1/2 x 12 inches and 11 x 6 1/2 inches (overall). N.B. Not having children of their own, Laura and her sister Lizzie enjoyed helping with the enculturation of young area girls by reading, giving etiquette lessons and at times playing paper dolls; something Laura enjoyed doing as a child. As an adult, Laura made paper dolls for a number of area youngsters including the children of Herbert Everett. Everett was a professor of fine arts at the University of Pennsylvania who bought a summer home for his wife and (2) daughters in the 1890s just down Main Street, West Newbury from Laura Hills' "Goldfish". The Everetts became friends with the Hills. These were purchased from Herbert Everett's direct descendent in the 1990's by Chris Snow.
