Description
**First Time At Auction**
Northwestern Europe, United Kingdom, Wales, ca. 1890 to 1920 CE. A brass and copper bugle used for military communication with the regimental badge soldered to the bell. This bugle is of simple construction, lacking valves and the pitch is entirely controlled by the player's lips. The medallion is marked with "Royal Welsh Fusiliers" and the central number "23" for the distinction as the 23 Foot Regiment. Attached to the handle is a colorful cord and tassels at both ends. The Royal Welsh Fusiliers were an infantry regiment formed in 1689 and named for the fusilier musket they carried. The 23rd Foot division was active until 2006 when they merged with the Royal Regiment of Wales. It is likely this bugle was used during battles of WWI to signal trench attacks and other commands or alerts. This bugle still emits a trumpeting tone! Size: 13.25" L x 5" W (33.7 cm x 12.7 cm)
Provenance: ex-Dundee collection, Newtownabbey, United Kingdom
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
