Late 18th/early 19th century, serpentine front; diamond, barber pole and other inlay to edges and corners; slant hinged lid with inlaid oval patera on exterior and eight-pointed star on interior, shield shaped silver escutcheon engraved with Stewart clan motto "Virescit Vulnere Virtus" (Courage grows strong at a wound.), interior converted to a decanter holder, the interior compartmented and fitted with four amber brown case gin bottles of square tapered form with rounded shoulders, each having a cork stopper with silver finial; knife box 9"W, 11"D, 15 1/2"H; bottles 10 1/4"H to top of stoppers; age crack to rear edge of one side of knife box
