**First Time At Auction**
First Nations / Native American, Canadian Arctic, Inuit, ca. 1950s to 1960s CE. An exceptional hand-carved soapstone figure of a kneeling woman engaged in needlework. Her braided hair falls down her back, and she is bundled in layers of clothing. She rests on her legs which are folded beneath her body. Before her is an ovoid panel which is likely a hide she is sewing or stretching. The panel has an incised border of triangular patterns and rests upright upon her ample lap. The soapstone presents with lovely light and dark green hues as well as black and white striations running through it. Size: 6.5" L x 4" W x 6" H (16.5 cm x 10.2 cm x 15.2 cm)

Condition
Repaired: lower protruding panel near base has been reattached. Repair is well done with visible adhesive residue on base. Chips and nicks to high-pointed areas. Artist initials on base are indiscernible.
