Rare Lincoln Mourning Badge w/ Original Box



Rare Abraham Lincoln mourning badge that features an albumen photograph of President Lincoln encased in a gold-colored frame surrounded by black cloth with tails. Incredibly, this rare piece has survived with the paper-mâché box that it was originally sold in. Affixed to the box is a tag identifying the retailer as Horstmann Bros. and Co. of Philadelphia (best known as a Military goods supplier during the Civil War). Few extant examples, if any, are believed to have survived.
