Description
A Chinese carved jade statue of Avalokiteshvara dating from the 19th century with a wooden stand. The bodhisattva holds a willow branch in his right hand and makes the debate or vitarka mudra with his left. He wears a necklace and a lotus hair pin in his top knot. He is topless but wears a dhoti and a shawl over his shoulders.
Dimensions are: 7 3/4 inches tall X 2 1/2 inches wide, 19.7 cm X 6.4 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There is chipping throughout and natural variations to the stone.
Provenance: From Mr. Wong in Honolulu, Hawaii, who acquired the piece in Hong Kong prior to 1980s.
