Description
DESCRIPTION: American made viola with maker's label and dated 1948. PROVENANCE: Purchased from Kaplan by a musician who lived in Stamford CT and played in the Norwalk Symphony and Silvermine String Ensemble in the 1940s and 1950s. Through descent. NOTE: Ladislav Kaplan 1874-1962. Czechoslovakia and moved to the US when he was 19. Hand made violins, violas, and cellos. Some musicians said that his instruments were superior to Stradivarius. MEASUREMENTS: 27 " long x 10 " wide. CONDITION: Bow missing. Losses to varnish from use, minor nick to lower right. IMPORTANT: Before bidding, please read the terms and conditions.
