Description
Romare Howard Bearden (American, 1911-1988). Color lithograph on paper titled "Three Women (Easter Sunday)" depicting three women standing together in bright, colorfully patterned clothing under a sunny, blue-sky. Their hands reach out for each other in the act of greeting upon arriving to church for Easter Sunday service. A bird rests on a shrub along the lower right of the composition as the women continue to visit outside of the church walls. Numbered 66/300 in pencil along the lower left. Signed along the lower right.
Romare Bearden was a North Carolina native whose work often depicts African American home life, portraying daily rituals such as quilting, listening to music, reading, and playing in a new light.
