A wonderful pastoral landscape of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a settlement of Moravians established in 1740 on the Lehigh River. While Prince Maximilian toured the district with Lewis Saynisch, the German physician, Bodmer occupied himself by sketching the town and countryside, and captured this wonderful scene showing the farming community taking a momentary rest from their labours.
