Description
A nice, early and scarse Tlaquepaque (or Tonala) pottery art tile in "Fantasia" style depicting cows in field with local exotic trees and flora, 5 3/4 in. sq. by 3/8 in. thick, some small edge chips and felt debris glued to back. Tlaquepaque pottery pieces were produced for the tourist trade that started coming into the Guadalajara area in the 1920 - 1930's. A thriving pottery trade developed over the ensuing decades as these pieces became sought by the increasing tourist traffic and collectors. The pottery was also sold in finer large department store chains in the United States. It continues to have a strong collector base.
