A Taos drum with traditional construction that dates to the 19th Century; there are bits of red pigment in evidence; the piece is signed in two places: "John D. Lujan" and "JTL 1835". (It is noted that John Lujan was the son of Mabel Dodge and Tony Lujan, a famous Pueblo 20th century modernist painter.) Measures 12.5 x 7 x 7 inches. Provenance: Collection of the Benedictine Sisters of Atchison, KS, Mount St. Scholastica
