TADASHIGE NISHIDA was born in 1942, in Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan. After graduating from The University of Chiba in Tokyo, he lived in Spain for a year before returning to Japan to produce Nihon-ga style paintings. From 1961 to 1984, Tadashige Nishida exhibited paintings in many exhibitions, receiving multiple awards and international attention. Beginning in 1985, Tadashige Nishida began to turn his attention to woodblock printmaking and exhibited his work in New York that same year. Due to his success in printmaking, Nishida has continued to design woodblock prints and has exhibited countless times at major galleries and high-end department stores in Japan since the eighties. Currently, Tadashige Nishida's work depicts cats in various poses and combinations and are generally printed on a gold leaf background or a solid color background. To date he has hand-carved and hand-printed over 150 different woodblock prints.
