Description
This is a one-of-a-kind photo album created by the master of ceremonies, Dan Moats, for the event. It is titled "Gov. Reagan's Dixon Visit February 24, 1976."
1976 was the year Reagan first ran for U. S. President, but lost the Republican nomination to Gerald Ford. This visit no doubt was a part of his campaigning.
The album consists of a three-ring binder with 57 photographs measuring 3.5 x 5 inches. There are two photos to a page and both sides are used. Each page in the binding has a clear plaster protective covering.
The photos show the audience, the school choir, speakers, Nancy and Ronald Reagan on the stage, and Reagan speaking at the podium. Reagan also poses for a series of photos with locals, which are included here.
There is also a letter to the master of ceremonies from the then Illinois State Senator, David Shapiro. At the back are six pages of cartoons (copies not the original drawings) drawn by a local artist, Rosemary Miller Walker depicting some scenes of the life of "Dutch Reagan."
