Engraving measures 6.5" x 8.5" (sight), Philadelphia, Ca. 1840-75. Titled the "Washington Family", the portrait was painted by F.B. Schell, engraved by Adam B. Walter, and published by John Dainty. George Washington is seen seated at a table with his wife, Martha, while their grandchildren Eleanor and George Custis stand behind him. On the table lies a sword and a hat. George Custis holds a piece of paper in his right hand and rests his left hand on a globe. The engraving is housed in an oval vintage frame, measuring 8.5" x 10.5" overall. Light toning to the engraving, with wear and chipping to the frame.
George and Martha Washington had no children of their own but adopted Eleanor and George Custis after their father, John Parke Custis, passed away in 1781.
