Rev. War 1777 Receipt of Guns for Peekskill Militia, Signed by Noah Webster
Document Signed, 3.75" x 8", with docketing on verso; one fold, minimal wear. Hartford, CT. Dated "9 August 1777". This receipt was signed by Captain Noah Webster (1722-1813), father of the famous lexicographer. He served as a captain in the Connecticut militia in 1777 and 1778.
A fantastic receipt for guns and cartridge boxes issued to for his militia company en route to the front lines in Peekskill. The receipt reads "Rec'd of Select Men of Hartford, three guns & 2 boxes for my company now ordered to the Peekskill."Â
