Item Details
Description
Alexandra Nechita (Romanian-American, b. 1985). Lithograph, 1998. Edition 79/250 handwritten in pencil on lower left. Embossed Mourlot seal on lower left. Signed and dated in pencil on lower right. A very large colored lithograph by Alexandra Nechita, a child prodigy of Romanian descent whom the art world referred to as the "Petite Picasso" in the 1990s, set in museum-quality framing. This piece was printed when Nechita was only thirteen years old, and the composition may have been created by her several years before. Nechita presents a pair of abstract figures, perhaps a dancing couple with limbs akimbo, seemingly breaking through the picture plane - all rendered in Nechita's signature Cubist style and vibrant Post-Impressionistic color palette. Size of printed image: 28" L x 22" W (71.1 cm x 55.9 cm) Size of frame: 42.375" L x 36" W (107.6 cm x 91.4 cm)

This lithograph is also accompanied by a signed copy of the book entitled, "Outside the Lines: Paintings by Alexandra Nechita"(1996) - signed by the artist on the frontispiece. The monograph includes comments by Nechita and a Foreword by Charles Osgood, host of CBS This Morning who interviewed Nechita in September of 1995, just months after collectors took notice of this "unusual new child artist who paints in the abstract cubist style of Pablo Picasso and in the vibrant colors of Henri Matisse."

According to Nechita's biographical statement, "Alexandra Nechita was born in Romania in 1985. She began drawing at the age of two. At seven, Alexandra was painting with oils and acrylics. Her first exhibition was a one-woman show, held at a Los Angeles public library, when she was just eight years old. Alexandra’s talent was instantly recognized as crowds came to see her amazing and often monumental paintings. She attracted the attention of art critics and media alike who began telling the world about this rarest of child prodigies – an artist who had mastered drawing and color, and artist who had created a visual language of her own, in a unique, lyrical, figurative, abstract manner. Since then, her works have a developed artistic personality and are highly sophisticated and fully alive to the nuances and possibilities of her medium. She has had exhibitions worldwide and continues to actively pursue her artistic endeavors. Alexandra is an active advocate of the arts as a mode of communication and supports art in schools as a tool for expression and communication. She is dedicated to working to increase the opportunity for peaceful conflict resolution and displace the power of violence in our society, through peace-building. Most recently Alexandra is working towards co-branding and collaborative projects that enable her outreach to extend beyond the canvas. Alexandra graduated from UCLA in 2008 with a degree in Fine Arts and currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband, daughter and three dogs." (Alexandra Nechita website)
