Description
This is a beautiful estate found monotype print by Polish artist Bernard Lewandowski (20th century). The artist studied at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts until the development of WWII. Leaving Poland in 1945. he studied in Paris , and after 18 years in France he came to the United States. His works can be found in many private collections, and also in museums in Poland. This monotype features a stunning landscape with a lone tree overlooking craggy mountainous terrain. It is signed and dated by the artist for 1961. A monotype print is achieved by painting a smooth surface and then taking a sheet of absorbent paper and pressing the image in by hand. Alternatively, the image can be printed on an etching press. The pigment remaining on the plate is usually insufficient to make another print unless the original design is reinforced. Further, any subsequent prints will invariably differ from the first one, because variations in repainting and printing are inevitable. Since each is unique and hand executed, monotypes cannot be considered a technique of multiple replication. But, because they are prints on paper, they are usually classed with printmaking media. - The frame is 24 3/4" x 19 5/8" with a sight view of 23 5/8" x 18 5/8". The print is 22 5/8" x 17".
