Description
This music box can play eight different tunes in sequence or individually. There are 78 notes played by the steel comb, six notes played by separate metal bells, and a small drum is played by eight separate strikers. The drum can be muted with a small lever near the front. The entire mechanism appears to be complete with its winding crank and internal glass lid, which allows the operation of the music box to be viewed while it is playing. And it plays beautifully. The housing is a beautifully inlayed wooden box, about 23.5 inches wide, 12 inches wide, and 10.5 inches tall, in good condition with some wear like we all might show if we were more than 100 years old. See photos for condition. The eight tunes are listed on a handwritten card attached to the inside of the lid (see photo) and includes La Traviata by Verdi, Faust by Gounod, Guillamme Tel [William Tell] by Rossini, and La Dame Blanche by Boeldieu [sic].Date: 1880sCountry (if not USA): SwitzerlandState: City: Provenance:
