Description: This is the rightmost piece of an untitled triptych by Utagawa Kuniyoshi showing Prince Genji, from the Tale of Genji, and 6 beauties watching the antics of a performing monkey. This particular print shows 3 of the beauties in very ornate clothing. Utagawa Kuniyoshi was one of the most elite masters of the art of ukiyo-e and is now one of the most renowned and well known ukiyo-e artists. This was published by Izumi-ya Kichibei. Signed: Kuniyoshi, leftside of bottom of paper. To the right of that, two round nanushi censor seals, Watanabe and Mera. Below the round seals is a publisher seal for Izumi-ya Kichibei.

Condition: Light toning throughout, and some areas of fading on the colors, although most of the colors remain vibrant. Some wear including slight folding to outside edges and corners. Pasted to backing paper by either publishing company or original owner. No significant creases, tears, insect damage, or pinholes.
Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
