Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
British Naval Use Axe with Maker Identified Shaped Head
c. 1800 early 19th Century, British Naval Use Axe with shaped head, identified Maker, Used, Very Fine.
An attractive used example of this Naval weapon that measures 15" long by the wood handle, 7.5" long head with a near 2.5" edge to the blade. The steel surface has dark areas from age with the maker's name "C. Whitehouse," which was located in Cannock, England, clearly stamped into the blade midway between the front of the blade and its handle. The wooden handle has a nice, aged, smooth patina attached to the shaped head with two supporting steel straps one on each side at the neck where attached using two rivets. This axe has a heavy heft and is very nice for display.
Cannock is a town and the administrative centre of the Cannock Chase in the county of Staffordshire in the West Midlands region of England.
