Description
War of 1812
War of 1812 Period Iron Naval Boarding / Grappling Hook
War of 1812 Period, Museum Quality Hand-Wrought 12.75" tall Iron Naval Boarding / Grappling Hook, Choice Extremely Fine.
Complete and fully intact, this four-pronged Iron Grappling Hook has an Integral Iron Loop at top for attaching to a rope or line. In Naval battles, sailors would throw the hook from their ship onto the enemy's, allowing them to follow the movement of the opposing ship, slow its forward motion, and/or pull it closer. Grappling hooks are effective tools for safely attaching lines for climbing up or rappelling down. This example has a rich, wonderful undamaged patina. The intimidating Hand-Wrought Iron prongs measure an equidistant 9" from tip to tip and, when sitting on its prongs and with the loop elevated, the whole hook stands 12.75" tall. A high quality very attractive natural patina example for any War of 1812 or Naval warfare display.
