Illustrated with 500 hand-colored lithographic plates (with tissue guards; variously foxed and darkened), after Audubon, by W.E. Hitchcock, R. Trembly, and others, as well as numerous in-text and full-page wood engravings; printed and colored by J.T. Bowen. Contemporary full diced russia, stamped in blind and in gilt, black morocco spine labels, joints rubbed and variously worn, scattered wear to extremities, spines dry and split, spine ends chipped, front boards of Vols. IV, VI, and VII starting; matching marbled edges and endpapers; moderate foxing in first volume; plates 72-74 and accompanying text sprung in second volume; plate 215 loose in fourth volume, edge of same creased, darkened, and lightly chipped, plate 245 sprung in same volume; plates 349, 350, and accompanying text sprung in fifth volume; plates 351, 352, and accompanying text sprung in sixth volume, plate 420 in same loose; scattered light to moderate foxing to prelims and text in most volumes; ink stamp of "The Valentine Museum, Richmond, Virginia, Bequeathed by Mann S. Valentine" at head of title-page in each volume.
