Description
Large Royal Vienna charger, fine condition, c1880, titled Die Uberschwemmung (The Flooding)
Diameter: 18"
Davids notes: I have seen a lot of Royal Vienna in my lifetime, this is one of the best I have every had, in terms of condition, period, color and sheer beauty. This is the time period when Royal Vienna was at its zenith, making works of porcelain that the upper class could buy but had the quality of porcelain made for royalty in the past. The painting is exceptional, it is hand painted, and the reserves and rim work is first rate. The gold details, usually worn down from time and surface abrasion, is as sharp and as unworn as the day it was made. The raised decoration is still raised, not worn flat. The gold is still crisp and sharp, there is no cracking, no restoration, no damage anywhere. I hesitate to say mint condition, because often someone points out something the size of the head of an ant and says, see, not mint, but I will say near mint condition, but the fact is I don't see any condition issues, and I am very impressed with the condition.
