Item Details
Description
Alfonso Iannelli, Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation - Nakoma, 1974, 12.25" x 4" x 5.25" Bronze. Edition 55B/500. Weighs 10 pounds. Proceeds from the sale of this lot supports the mission and vision of Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West. Made by Alfonso Iannelli for the Midway Gardens series in Wisconsin while working with Frank Lloyd Wright. Ex Elaine Horwitch Galleries, Scottsdale, Arizona, 1980. In 1914 Frank Lloyd Wright asked Alfonso Iannelli, an unknown 26-year-old Italian-American immigrant, to sculpt geometric figures for his landmark Chicago masterpiece, Midway Gardens. Iannelli's work was also shown in several of Wright's works from the groundbreaking modernist posters designed for Los Angeles' Orpheum Theater to his zodiac figures at the twelve corners of Chicago's Adler Planetarium to his iconic industrial designs that appeared in households across America. Iannelli Studios was created in Park Ridge, Illinois, shortly after the turn of the last century. Iannelli continued to create within and around a Modernism environment for nearly six decades. He was well-known in the design world at the time, including Mies van der Rohe and Wassily Kandinsky. Each lot shows additional images, condition reports, and provenance. Please review all images.
