Description
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East, Syria, ca. 2300 to 200 BCE. A wonderful bronze axe head created via the lost wax technique. The head is comprised of a cylindrical socket with pointed flanges on the lower lip to aid in hafting the axe onto a pole. A rounded fin protrudes from the butt end with a raised ridge across the center. The blade is an unusual slender length with a small vertical tip. The narrow blade suggests that this was used for shaping light material or ritualistic purposes. A wonderful green patina with blue highlights covers the surface. Size: 6.25" L x .75" W (15.9 cm x 1.9 cm); 7.25" H (18.4 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
