Description
**First Time At Auction**

Western/Central Europe, probably England, France, or Germany, Medieval Period, ca. 8th to 14th century CE. An iron arrow bolt for a crossbow, with a socketed body and a diamond-shaped head that tapers to a pointed tip. Crossbows were incredibly advantageous weapons when used against comparatively primitive bows and arrows as they surpassed the accuracy, firing rate, and lethality of even the most well-constructed bows. A well preserved bolt that is covered with a rich russet brown patina. Size: 3" L x .5" W (7.6 cm x 1.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000
