Description
and Stoneware Owl Still Bank. Unknown American Maker Pennsylvania - Circa 1890's. These rare and important Pennsylvania earthenware still banks clearly draw their design inspiration from J. & E. Stevens' Owl Turns Head mechanical toy bank. They are made of redware and stoneware respectively. Though it is rare, we have seen other examples of the redware bank. However, we have never before seen the stoneware specimen. Furthermore, we have never previously discovered any pottery owl painted as a "white owl" with pale yellow eyes. These banks were owned by twin sisters who died in their late 90's in the 1980's. Thus far, they have spent more than a century together. They are being offered for the first time in many decades as a pair. Excellent Plus with Mellow Patina.
