Description
This is a rather sobering statistical map of 1900 Typhoid Fever death rates in New York, New Jersey and New England area. The data are shown on a county basis from under 15 to over 35 deaths per 100,000. Many of the counties are at 25+ deaths per 100,000. The disease is caused by a salmonella bacteria typically spread through poor sanitization, e.g. drinking water with feces residues. Expectedly the larger cities with better sanitary conditions such as New York, Boston, Buffalo are low on death rates.
